Trump: “I may not accept vote results

In combative interview, president blasts ‘fake polls,’ calls Fauci ‘alarmist,’ vows to veto base renaming

In a wide-ranging, and frankly scary, interview with Fox’s Chris Wallace (tell me again how Wallace keeps his job with Fox), Donald Trump called polls showing him increasingly losing ground to his presumptive presidential opponent (no, I’m not talking talking about Kanye West), Joe Biden, “fake;” he called Dr. Anthony Fauci, the country’s most highly regarded expert on infectious diseases, an “alarmist” (according to Quinnipiac’s* “fake” poll, “67% of registered voters do not trust Trump’s Covid-19 claims, while “65%, say they trust the information Fauci is providing about the coronavirus” — wait, I wrote about that last week, focussing on the 30% who trust the president on the pandemic, sorry for repeating…BUT IT BEARS REPEATING!).

*I’m curious, aside from seeing the “fake” polls it publishes, does anyone know where Quinnipiac University is? Does anyone know anyone who went there? Well, in the public interest, I’ll tell you. I went to my “Google Machine” and found this out: Quinnipiac is in Hamden, CT. It has about 7,000 undergraduates and shows up pretty much in the middle of the road in the various published college rankings. But, you ask, what is a “Quinnipiac?” It’s the English name for the Eansketambawg, a Native American nation from what is now Connecticut. If only the school went by the original Native American name. Imagine, the Eansketambawg University Poll. Now that’s a poll you couldn’t possibly fake!

And, he opposed renaming Army bases, like Fort Bragg, named for mediocre Confederate generals, like Braxton Bragg, who is generally considered among the worst generals of the Civil War. Most of the battles in which he engaged ended in defeat. Bragg was extremely unpopular with both the men and the officers of his command, who criticized him for numerous perceived faults, including poor battlefield strategy, a quick temper, and overzealous discipline. (Oh right, now we know why Trump wants to keep the name — Trump and Bragg are like two peas in a pod. Interesting, very interesting.)

But the most egregious part of the interview is not the part where Trump bragged (sorry!) about “acing” the cognitive test given to dementia patients, telling Wallace that the last seven questions were really hard…questions that included really tricky ones like “what’s today’s date,” “what year it is,” and “what city are we in.”**

**We have not confirmed the rumor that Wharton (Trump’s alma mater) is considering abandoning SATs and requiring prospective students to take MOCA [Montreal Cognitive Assessment] Test, now called, by Presidential Decree TRCOGA [Trump Cognitive Assessment] Test, but it has been reported that there has been a run on books about Seppuku and Harakiri at the faculty section of the Wharton library.

No, the most egregious, the most dangerous part is when he refused to say he’d accept the results of the upcoming Presidential Election.

“I have to see. Look … I have to see,” Trump told Wallace. “No, I’m not going to just say yes. I’m not going to say no, and I didn’t last time, either.”

While it is remarkable that a sitting president would express less than complete confidence in the American democracy’s electoral process, Trump is truly the most remarkable*** president we’ver ever had.

***Remarkable in this sense: bizarre, bizarro, cranky, crazy, eccentric, erratic, odd, off-kilter, peculiar, strange, wacky, weird.

What can we do about this? What should we do about this? Knowing that if he does lose he will claim voter fraud and will not leave the White House. Does anyone have an answer?

Well yes, someone does. And it comes from, of all people, “Sleepy” Joe Biden. You know him, he’s the one Trump claims “does not have the mental prowess to be president;” the one he demands should take a “TRCOGA.” That Joe Biden.

Well, sleepy or not, Biden has responded to Trump’s election result threat with this release:

“The American people will decide this election. And the United States government is perfectly capable of escorting trespassers out of the White House.”

There is hope. There is a savior. There’s even a potential presidential “sense of humor.”
